Fun day, especially the broomsticks

We went to Alnwick Castle last month, got the Castle Entry Tickets and did the Broomstick Training. That was really fun, even for the adults. It was pretty easy to book everything online. The kids loved exploring the Outer Bailey and watching the Medieval Crafts. It felt like a proper old castle, not too stuffy, which was great. Parking was easy enough too.

Good value, minor queue at entry

We visited Alnwick Castle, buying Castle Entry Tickets online beforehand. The advance booking discount was good, saved us a bit compared to gate prices. We did the Guided History Tour, which was quite interesting and our guide was knowledgeable. The only minor issue was a slightly long queue to get in, even with pre-booked tickets, but it moved steadily. The facilities were clean, and the Postern Picnic Area was a nice spot for a break. Overall, a positive day but they could streamline entry a little more.

Thoroughly enjoyable day out

I purchased Castle Entry Tickets and the Harry Potter Filming Location Tour for a family day out. The online booking process was straightforward, and I received my confirmation email promptly. Upon arrival, ticket scanning was quick, even with a small queue. The tour itself was informative and fun. We also had lunch at The Courtyard Cafe; the food was decent, a bit pricey, but expected for a tourist spot. The facilities were clean, and staff were generally helpful when I asked about directions to the Dragon Quest area. Overall, a well-managed attraction.

Worth it with the advance booking

I was looking for a day out that wouldn't break the bank, so I booked Castle Entry Tickets for Alnwick Castle online a few weeks ahead. The 10% advance booking discount definitely made a difference. I also saw family bundles which looked like good value for bigger groups. I appreciated that the price shown was the final price, no hidden fees. I felt like I got a good deal for everything we got to see, especially the State Rooms Tour. Overall, it felt like money well spent.

Always a good visit

Another solid experience at Alnwick. This was my fourth time visiting. I booked Castle Entry Tickets online again, and the process was smooth as usual. Delivery of the e-tickets was instant. I appreciate the consistency; it's why I keep coming back every couple of years. We also tried the Stables Courtyard Dining this time, which was a nice addition compared to my last visit.

Wondering about wheelchair access. My nan uses one, are there many parts of the castle she wouldn't be able to get into?

J Jacob Sanchez 3 weeks ago
A fair bit of it is accessible. The ground floor of the State Rooms, the main courtyards, and some dining areas. They have ramps for some areas too. Best to check their website or call them for specifics on tours.

It's decent. Not everything, obviously, it's an old castle, but they've made an effort. The main parts, including the Harry Potter stuff, should be okay. The staff are usually helpful too if you ask.

Is it worth booking tickets online ahead of time, or can I just show up and buy them at the gate?

D Danielle Ramirez 2 weeks ago
Always book online! You save like 10% compared to gate prices, and sometimes specific things like Broomstick Training require advance booking anyway.

L Leah Hall 2 weeks ago
Definitely book online. Not just for the discount, but also to guarantee entry on busy days. Plus, queuing for tickets is never fun.

Can I bring my dog inside Alnwick Castle?

K Katie Mitchell 1 month ago
No, you can't bring dogs into the castle itself or the main attractions. They're only allowed in the outer grounds and some specific outdoor areas on a lead.

B Brittany Torres 4 weeks ago
Unfortunately not in the castle buildings or formal gardens. You'll see signs about it. They do have some designated areas outside where dogs are permitted, but not inside.

Does Alnwick Castle take NHS discount? Or blue light card?

H Hannah M. 4 weeks ago
Yeah, they do both, I'm pretty sure. My friend used her NHS card for entry last summer.

Can confirm for Blue Light Card. Just show it at the gate when you're buying tickets, or sometimes you can apply it when booking online. Saves a bit for sure.

Thinking of visiting Alnwick Castle next month, just wondering if it's super busy during October half term? Trying to plan for crowds.

S Sofia T. 2 weeks ago
Oh yeah, October half term is definitely one of their peak times. Expect it to be pretty packed, especially around the Harry Potter stuff. Best to go early or later in the day if you can.

K Karen L. 2 weeks ago
It can be, but if you book broomstick training or specific tours in advance, that helps structure your day and you won't feel as overwhelmed by general crowds. Did that last year and it was manageable.
